It started with one roofer. Matt Emmendorfer worked as a roofer for a few years, and people started asking him for bids. His father knew half the town and pointed jobs his way. For about twenty years it grew on word of mouth alone, with Matt holding a full-time job at the local gas company and roofing on the side. The storms kept him busy and the reputation kept building.
When Matt retired from Laclede Gas in 2017, his son Tom came on full-time. Tom had been on the fence, but the more he worked the more it took, and once he pulled the trailer Matt's other son Tim came along too. Matt's daughter Amy handles the drone, the photos, and the video. Wendy is the one and only office manager and the voice on the phone. That is the company: a family that, in Matt's words, is married to its roofing.
The business grew from roofing into full exterior work for a simple reason. The family started losing jobs because they did not have a siding crew, and customers wanted one company to handle all the storm-damaged exterior at once. So they added siding and gutters and built a crew that wants to do everything. Today Emmendorfer is a full-exterior contractor that still treats roofing as its heart.
